Position Summary:
The Career Academy Liaison and Coordinator of Special Projects serves as the facilitator between Akron Children’s Hospital and Akron Public Schools Academy of Health and Human Services at North High School.  The position streamlines all communications, outreach, requests, and partnership development between the two organizations, recognizes the strengths of each entity, and makes connections for continued growth and support. The liaison will keep regular communication with organizations, developing relationships with stakeholders and compiling an inventory of needs and assets in both organizations. All communication to Akron Children's Hospital from APS/North Career Academy, and vice versa, should be facilitated and supported by the Liaison.   
 
Coordinator of Special Projects (10-hours per week)

This role will advise, support and assist the VP of External Affair's with special projects

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. May oversee or coordinate multiple programs or short-term projects
  2. Gather and analyze information to develop and prepare presentations
  3. Serve as liaison for stated projects
  4. Serve on various internal committees
  5. May oversee the implementation of short-term projects
  6. Works independently requiring minimum day-to-day supervision
  7. Other duties as required
Career Academy Liaison (30 hours per week)

Duties and Responsibilities
 
Ensures the success of North HS Students and Staff
  1. Coordinator subject matter experts to attend at least 2 staff sessions per semester
  2. Plan and support progressive student experiences for students
  3. Work with Akron Children's Hospital human resources and others to develop a database of staff expertise to use for providing expertise to the high school, including career exploration
  4. Assist in bringing authentic opportunities; bring in necessary expertise to support lessons to expose and enhance interest in health care related careers
Professional Development sessions to Academy staff
 
    1.  Connect ACH expertise with the needs of Academy staff and students
    2.  Facilitate speaker's series seeking speakers who are professionals in their area of expertise
 
Further Develop Progressive Student Experiences for HS students – 1st Fall Session
  1. Hosting 2 tours per year of ACH for faculty and students
  2. Organize and host White Coat Day
  3. Work with ACH Research department to develop outcome measurements for the partnership
  4. Welcome staff and students to predetermined ACH in-service, grand rounds or other exposures/learning opportunities
Student Experiences for HS students – 1st Spring Session
  1. Host 2 tours of the hospital for faculty and students
  2. Work with Academy Leadership to identify the cohort of 8-10 students in grade 9 for intense engagement through grade 12
  3. Work with Volunteer Services staff at ACH to identify internship experiences for a designated number of students for summer
  4. Begin full implementation of outcome measurements
  5. Develop and submit year-end progress report
Student Experiences for HS students – 2nd Fall Session
 
    1. Host 3 tours of tours for faculty and students
    2. Host White Coat Day
    3. Continue engagement of cohort group now in grade 10
    4. Submit partnership to date progress report
 
Professional Work Experience
 
    1. Lead/assist with the concept of having Academy students gain work experience within ACH
    2. Knowledge of Healthcare
 
Other duties as required

Qualifications:

Technical Expertise

  1. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint] or similar software is required

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree required (communications, organizational leadership, education, etc.)
  2. Minimum of four years relevant experience in program development/planning
